Kate Sheedy (18)
From London
Attacked Friday 28th May 2004, Worton Road, Isleworth, Greater London
Kate
Sheedy, a former Gumley House Convent School head girl, became the victim
of attempted murder, being involved in a hit and run.
Late
on the night of Thursday 27th May 2004, Kate travelled home on the H22 bus
to Isleworth, following an evening out. She got off the bus in Worton Road
at about 00:30 in the early hours of the morning. A white Toyota Previa people
carrier, with black windows and black wing mirrors, registration possibly
K855EFL, which had been following the 'bus, was now parked with its lights
turned off and engine revving. Because she felt uncomfortable, Miss Sheedy
tried to avoid the vehicle by crossing the street. It was then that driver
of the car turned on the lights and began to drive down Worton Road before
making a U-turn and driving towards her. The car ran over her deliberately,
then reversed back over her.
Kate Sheedy suffered severe injuries including a ruptured liver, collapsed lung, broken ribs and collar bone.
In August
2005 detectives linked this attempted murder to the killings of Amelie
Delagrange and Marsha McDonnell.
The driver of the white vehicle may have intended to jump out of his car and
hit Kate Sheedy on the head with a hammer. But Kate had been wary.
She
had crossed the road in order to avoid the car, which was in darkness but
with its engine running. Perhaps the driver felt that the only way to stop
her was to use his vehicle as a weapon. Also it does
seem that the attacker tended to follow his victims as they travelled home
by bus.
On
2nd March 2006 Levi Bellfield was charged with Kate Sheedy's attempted murder,
along with the murder of Amelie Delagrange and the attempted murder of Irma
Dragoshi. Following his trial, on 25th Febuary 2008 Bellfield was found
guilty of the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy, and of the murders of Marsha
McDonnell & Amelie Delagrange. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
